Centralia Mining Disaster
Crowds watch as men don primitive breathing gear and descend into coal mines. A guard pours soup for a worker eating a sandwich. Women wearing scarves on their heads watch, others wipe away tears. Later, stretchers bearing casualties are loaded into vans by men in overcoats as snow falls.
